Five thousand floating paper lanterns fill the sky over the Andaman Sea in remembrance of tsunami victims during the one-year anniversary in Khao Lak, Thailand. Survivors, friends and family remembered the fury of the Indian Ocean tsunami that swept away more than 200,000 people in 12 countries one year ago and laid waste to entire communities in one of the worst natural disasters in modern history.

An Ice circle was found on December 9, near Sudbury, Ontario, in snow- covered creek ice. Approximately 12-18 metres (40-60 feet) diameter, with a 2.5-5 centimetre (1-2 inch) deep 'V'-shaped groove in the ice defining the circle's perimeter. There is another possible groove a few inches inside of the outer groove.

Spectacular nightshow over Australian sky >>> added 4/12/2005

A small meteor produced a spectacular light show in the night sky over western Australia, making a thundering noise as it burned up entering the atmosphere, astronomers and witnesses said.
The meteor, which astronomers said was probably sized somewhere between a basketball and half a small car, lit up the sky for hundreds of kilometres (miles) over the southwestern corner of Australia about 9 pm on Saturday.

Australian UFO government documents declassified after 30 years>>> added 22/7/2005

Today secret government documents, declassified after 30 years under lock and key - reveal a mass of UFO sightings. The Northern Territory News reports, the documents, obtained from the National Archives in Darwin, detail a history of UFO activity across the Territory by a wide range of 'sighters', including RAAF crews and weather forecasters.
The files were classified and only became available for public viewing after 30 years in the government archives.

SETI scientists are taking notice of the latest discovery of a "Super-Earth" beyond the solar system as they fine-tune their list of stars to target in their search for extraterrestrial intelligence. With the recent announcement of a planet seven to eight times the Earth’s mass circling an M dwarf star, the chances for habitable worlds seem greater than ever. "It may well be that there are far more habitable planets orbiting M dwarfs than orbiting all other types of stars combined," explained Frank Drake, the Director of the SETI Institute’s Center for the Study of Life in the Universe. _____________________________________________________________________

Glow of Alien Planets Detected in 'Milestone' Observations>>> added 24/3/2005

The glow of planets outside our solar system have been spotted in the first direct detections of light emitted by alien worlds.

The two planets were detected in infrared light, an emission of heat that is not visible to the human eye. There are no conventional photographs, but astronomers are ecstatic nonetheless.

Get Ready for the Largest Demolition Derby on the Planet >>> added 13/1/2005

It is an event so large that the best seat in the house is in space: a massive iceberg is on a collision course with a floating glacier near the McMurdo Research Station in Antarctica. NASA satellites have witnessed the 80-mile-long B-15A iceberg moving steadily towards the Drygalski Ice Tongue. Though the iceberg's pace has slowed in recent days, NASA scientists expect a collision to occur no later than January 15, 2005.

Deep Impact Launched and Flying Toward Date With a Comet NASA's Deep Impact spacecraft began its journey to comet Tempel 1 on Wed., Jan. 12. The mission will travel to Tempel 1 and release an impactor on July 4, creating a crater on the surface of the comet. Scientists believe the exposed materials may give clues to the formation of our solar system.
